WGN broadcast now available
Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2006 15:27:29 -0400

By a miracle of technology, my radio appearance is now posted on my website. (I was on WGN AM on Sunday, March 26, on The Sunday Papers with Rick Kogan.)

The original broadcast ran about 40 minutes but half was news, sports, weather and commercials. Web guru Brian Lieberman has stripped out that stuff, so maybe you’re lucky you missed it the first time. Listen at:

http://www.tolovemercy.com/frank_joseph_wgn_radio.html

More technological miracles await. Stay tuned.

My Chicago trip is winding down. Thanks to great independent booksellers Jenny Fisher of The Bookstore in Glen Ellyn IL and Arlene Lynes of Read Between the Lynes in Woodstock IL for highly productive and enjoyable signings; the Borders in Hyde Park (Chicago), where assistant manager Patrick Lodge made things happen despite lack of cooperation from the Borders bureaucracy; and the Borders in DeKalb IL, which situated my reading practically in the doorway of the store and had more than two dozen copies on hand.

Tonight (Tuesday), 5:00 p.m. - Sherman Park branch, Chicago Public Library, 5440 S. Racine Ave., Chicago IL

Tomorrow (Wednesday), 6:00 p.m. - Bee branch, Chicago Public Library, 3647 S. State St., Chicago IL

Thursday: HOME!

Cheers,

Frank

The Rick Kogan WGN interview went great. If you missed it, I’m hoping to get a digital file of it and post it at www.tolovemercy.com. That day (Sunday), “To Love Mercy” briefly zoomed to about 1000 on the Amazon rankings.Mark your calendar: Friday, April 7, is my first bookstore appearance. It’s at Barnes & Noble, 13 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights IL. And I’ll be appearing again at 10 a.m. the next morning at the same Barnes & Noble. This B&N has ordered 50 copies of “To Love Mercy.” They’ve really gotten behind the book.

Hope to see you there. If you can’t make that one though, my full schedule of appearances is at http://www.tolovemercy.com/frank_joseph_appearancesaa.html

Frank Joseph’s novel is published
Thu, 23 Mar 2006 19:47:04 -0500

Dear Friend of Frank,

Please pardon the anonymous salutation. This is an eblast.

My novel “To Love Mercy” has been published. If you’ve already read it,
bless your heart. If you haven’t, I hope you will.

“To Love Mercy” is a story about blacks and whites, Christians and Jews,
how children see the world, conflict and reconciliation. It’s set in a
lost time and place, Chicago in 1948, with scenes at Comiskey Park,
Bronzeville, Maxwell Street and (ah!) Riverview Amusement Park that are
sure to evoke memories.

You can read all about “To Love Mercy” at:

http://tolovemercy.com

Jim Squires, former Editor of The Chicago Tribune, called it “a
pulsating tour of mid-20th-century Chicago … Innovative and enjoyable.”

“A compelling fable of hope and reconciliation told in a new and unique
narrative voice,” said Peter Rutkoff, author of “Shadow Ball: A Novel of
Baseball and Chicago.”

“What makes it so remarkable is the careful — loving — care to get the
words and cadences right from Chicago of the era of our childhood. A
wonderful, very special book,” said Gary Johnson, president of the
Chicago Historical Society.

“A timeless story about forgiveness. Frank Joseph knows how kids think,
talk and feel. I couldn’t put it down,” said Beth Rubin, author of
“Split Ends.”

And purchase the book at:

http://tolovemercy.com/to_love_mercy_online_sales.html

Or you may buy the book on www.Amazon.com or www.Barnesandnoble.com, or
at any Barnes and Noble, Borders, Books-A-Million or local independent
bookstore.

If you give the bookstore this ISBN number, it will hurry things along:

0-9744785-3-9

I will be on WGN AM 720 in Chicago on Sunday, March 26, at 8 a.m.
(Central time). Rick Kogan will be interviewing me for 40 minutes. I
hope you will tune in. In fact, I hope you will CALL IN! If you are
outside the Chicago listening area, you can listen to this broadcast at:

http://wgnradio.com/listen/index.htm

You must have RealPlayer already installed on your computer.

And from March 26 through April 12, I will be appearing all around the
Chicago area. PLEASE COME. PLEASE BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. I mean
it. I am begging you to come, and tell everyone you know to come too.
It’s shameless, but there it is.

You can see my full schedule of appearances at

http://www.tolovemercy.com/frank_joseph_appearances.html

I hope you will buy, read and enjoy “To Love Mercy.” If you do enjoy it,
and if you are so moved, here are a few other things you could do:

1. Tell your friends. Tell ALL your friends.
2. Tell your book club, and your friends’ book clubs. I am available to
speak to book clubs, either in person or by phone.
3. Ask your social club, church, synagogue, community center, library,
favorite bookstore, etc., to invite me to speak.
4. Ask your local library to buy and shelve the book.
5. Post a review on Amazon and Barnesandnoble.com. Here are the URLs:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0974478539/sr=8-1/qid=1142618608/ref=sr_1_1/102-0990659-1391310?%5Fencoding=UTF8

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/reviews/reviews.asp?z=y&TTL=To+Love+Mercy&TSEQ=7381336&PT=B&ean=9780974478531

I know this is asking a lot of you, but I have to. Books are still sold
by word of mouth, even in this day and age. You, my friends and family,
are the people I count on.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Frank
